With over $413 million in box office receipts worldwide, “Sex and the City” was a big hit at the movie theater, but not with Jennifer Aniston.
In her interview with Jonathan Van Meter for Vogue magazine’s December issue, Aniston ended up revealing she wasn’t a “Sex” convert when Van Meter said he enjoyed her performance in the upcoming film, “He’s Just Not That Into You.”
“I liked my story line, but...” she reportedly stammered. “I don’t know. I don’t... like... girls... whining... and complaining... about... wanting a man! I never liked ‘Sex and the City,’ the kind of thing where women only feel empowered once they find the Man,” Aniston told Vogue. “It is just not up my alley. I don’t believe in it. There is nothing you can control about love.”
And that’s something Aniston has learned over the years no doubt thanks to her well-publicized split with Brad Pitt in 2005. More recently, though, John Mayer, with whom she began a courtship following their meeting at an Oscar party earlier this year, shared news of their break-up with the paparazzi somewhat unpredictably in August 2008.
“He had to put that out there that he broke up with me. And especially because it’s me,” Aniston said. “It’s not just some girl he’s dating. I get it. We’re human. But I feel seriously protective of him and us. Trust me, you’ll never see that happen again from that man. And it doesn’t take away from the fact that he is a wonderful guy.”
Aniston did not confirm the two were back together in the Vogue piece — the interview may have happened before the two reportedly got back together — but the former “Friends” star did say she had plenty of feelings for the rocker.“But you know, it isn’t designed,” Aniston said of her time with Mayer. “Love just shows up and you go, ‘Oh, wow, this is going to be a hayride and a half.’”
